So, when we got home from our trip on Monday, we basically stayed in and watched movies the entire day. I don't like to have the TV on all the time but we were all so pooped that we couldn't do much else. One of the movies we watched was The Secret of NIMH. We don't usually watch kids movies because Geddy hasn't become attached to them yet (we know that will happen soon enough and that's all we'll watch) but it was one of Chad's favorite movies as a kid and I couldn't remember if I had seen it or not.
We put it in and I absolutely loved it. The thing I liked most was Mrs. Brisby. Her little husband had died and her children were in danger and she totally stepped up to the plate and took care of the problem (with a little help from friends). I have grown weary of the princesses that need their prince in order to be happy or to feel validated (not that it's bad that they fall in love). *Spoiler* Even in the end, Mrs. Brisby didn't end up with a fellow who could finally take care of her. No way, she continued on being a single Mama and kickin' "A". I believe there were multiple times where I said out loud "Get it girl!" Don't get me wrong, I love having a husband and a partner but it makes me concerned when Princesses are depicted as desperately needing a man in order to function. Why can't they find love and run their own business (haha, I'm kidding but seriously). I also loved that she was still so humble and incredibly likable. She is the bravest mouse I know.
Mrs. Brisby and Nicodemus
Anyway, this was a total oldy but a goody and I loved it. I got teary eyed and everything (not a huge shock).
